ATHE Level 3 Diploma in Business and Management
Overview : This qualification is equivalent to A-Levels and is designed for learners aged 16 and above who wish to progress to a business or management degree but may not have traditional entry qualifications. It provides a strong foundation in the core principles of business, preparing students for the rigours of higher education.
Area of Learning :
The curriculum provides a solid foundation in business through seven mandatory units and two optional units. Learners begin by exploring the business environment and how external factors influence organisational decisions, followed by an understanding of internal structures and operations. The programme strengthens communication skills, teamwork abilities, market research techniques, and basic financial control knowledge while also developing leadership and people-management capabilities.
To personalise their learning, students select two optional units that can focus on areas such as marketing and sales, human resources, organisational strategy, online marketing, international business, or project management. This combination of core subjects and elective choices equips learners with practical skills and a broad understanding of modern business operations, preparing them for a variety of career paths.
ATHE Level 4 Diploma in Sports Management (120 Credits)
Overview : Equivalent to the first year of a bachelor’s degree, this diploma provides a foundational understanding of the business and management principles that govern the sports industry. It is designed for individuals aspiring to junior management roles within sports organizations.
Area of Learning :The curriculum provides a broad introduction to the sports and leisure sectors through a set of mandatory units supported by a choice of optional units. Learners begin by exploring how the sports and leisure industries operate, while also developing strong professional and academic skills needed for further study and employment. The programme strengthens knowledge in sales and marketing, management principles, human resourcing, and health, fitness, and exercise, alongside an understanding of financial and management accounting techniques used by managers. Optional units allow learners to extend their knowledge in areas such as cultural perspectives, digital communications, information and knowledge management, financial accounting, and corporate social responsibility, enabling them to tailor their studies to specific interests within the wider sector.
- Entry Requirements : 5 or more GCSEs at grades C/4 and above, or an equivalent Level 2 qualification.
ATHE Level 5 Diploma in Sports Management (120 Credits)

Learners begin by developing an understanding of sport and leisure operations, gaining insight into how facilities and services are managed. They also explore the behaviour and motivations of the sport consumer, followed by learning about sports development and coaching, where they examine participation pathways, coaching methods, and community engagement. Leadership skills are strengthened through a unit on leading work teams, while a double module on work-related projects and career development provides practical experience, professional growth, and opportunities to apply learning in real or simulated workplace settings.
Optional units allow learners to broaden their knowledge in complementary business areas, such as business law, business ethics, and finance for managers. Additional choices include studying business organisations in a global context, applied economics for business, and managing communication, enabling learners to build wider business skills that support leadership and management roles within the sports and leisure industry.

ATHE Level 6 Diploma in Sports Management (120 Credits)
